We partner with all the major NRTL’s (Nationally Registered Test Laboratories) to provide UL field labeling services for old or new equipment. We do UL field labeling for many UL Standards.
The 1st or “initial” quote will be for the cost of the UL evaluation services. Upon completion of the evaluation you will receive a well-organized report. The initial report will provide a full scope of any needed adjustments to the electrical system design or components. As well, during the evaluation we will look at the components and installation methods to make sure that the enclosures, components and equipment meet the standard needed for the environment they are being used in.
Our Field Engineer/Estimator can estimate the costs for the UL evaluation step of your project. An initial application will need to be filled out. Once the application is received, it will be reviewed and any questions will need to be addressed with sufficient documentation and specifications.
In the event that you have a correction notice or “Not Approved” from the local Building Department’s “AHJ”, (Authority having Jurisdiction, also called the inspector) We will need a copy of that document
as part of the application process
The 2nd step of the process is to provide the scope of work to do the adjustments to the control panel or equipment.
The equipment owner can hire anyone he prefers to do the remediation.
At Independence Power, because we have provided remediation services for the last 10 years for all types of controls and machines, we can guarantee the remediation work will pass Step 3, the final evaluation, and your equipment will be labeled.
Most equipment can be adjusted to meet the standard. There are, however, some rare cases where the manufacturer used some components that do not meet any standard, and those components are so custom that it is not possible to locate other suitable components that could replace the non- labeled components. In this case, a re-design will need to be done, or the equipment will not be able
to be labeled. In many cases, Independence Power Systems technicians can provide the labor and expertise needed for all electrical system remediation in the report. We have the skill set and have done UL labeling remediation for 10 years. Our partnership with the NRTL’s provide a solid basis for the solutions to many remediation issues. In the event there is an electrical system design issue, we have
a control panel designer on our team to quickly re-design the circuits and controls, to integrate proper methods so the compliance to the standards is swift.
The final Step is for the equipment to be re-evaluated to make sure the adjustments to the equipment have been done, and meet the UL Standards. Upon Completion of step 3, the equipment gets labeled, you get a final report for your corporate office, or insurance provider. IPS send the building inspector a copy of the final report as well.
There are no costs to provide the estimate for the UL evaluation services unless there is a need to travel. Sometimes our estimator will need to look at the equipment before an estimate can be provided. There will be costs related to the travel, if needed. Once all the information needed is provided, an estimate can be prepared for the initial evaluation.
The costs to provide the UL evaluation services will vary based on the number of pieces that need to be evaluated, the type of equipment, and complexity of the equipment. Once we have all the information needed in hand, a quote for the initial UL evaluation will be emailed to your project engineer or facilities personnel. Upon approval of our quote, we can set a schedule for the project.
